'Fracture'
set for New Zealand distribution Polyphony Entertainment is delighted to announce a distribution deal has been struck for FRACTURE, a film by Larry Parr, produced by Charlie McClellan and based on the best-selling, highly acclaimed novel CRIME STORY, by Maurice Gee. Australasian Company, Polyphony Entertainment, headed by respected film industry identity Richard Sheffield, is planning to release FRACTURE in New Zealand, early September 2004. Speaking from Sydney, Australia, Richard Sheffield said, "FRACTURE is another example of the maturity of Kiwi film-making. Larry Parr has done an outstanding job in bringing Maurice Gee's CRIME STORY to the screen. The film displays the same sort of maturity as the multi-award winning Australian film LANTANA, not only from the story-telling, but also the performances from the ensemble cast". Bill Gosden (NZ Film Festival) chose FRACTURE, which was filmed on location in Wellington, to open the World Cinema Showcase (currently on tour in NZ) on April 1, 2004 at the Paramount Cinema Wellington. FRACTURE played to a full house and rapturous audience. In the audience was Mr Maurice Gee who thoroughly enjoyed the film and pledged his support. Mr Gee was quoted as saying earlier in the Dominion Post that he was delighted with Larry Parr's cinematic vision of his novel and described Parr's script as "Skilful, balanced and intelligent.", (Dominion Post, March 29, 2004). FRACTURE features the cream of New Zealand acting talent. Kate Elliott stars as Leeanne Rosser, newcomer Jared Turner plays Brent Rosser. John Noble (Denethor in LOTR, The Return of the King features as Howard Peet). The ensemble cast includes Cliff Curtis, Miranda Harcourt, Jennifer Ward Lealand, Paul Glover, Liddy Holloway, Alicia Fulford-Wierzbicki, Alistair Browning, Michael Hurst and Julian Arahanga. Brief Synopsis Young solo mother Leeanne (Kate Elliott) showers her one-year-old with love and affection, though she gets no help from her family. Rebuffed by her mother, she tries to stay close to her cool and handsome brother Brent (Jared Turner). But she doesn't know about his secret life as a professional thief preying on the unsuspecting rich. When he bungles a burglary, his world is about to be shattered. The crime also creates a crisis for the members of two families. As relationships begin to fracture and fall apart, Leeanne must discover if she has the courage and strength to survive. |
